U.S. 54 Bridge Y.C, Posted For Weight Limits
Posted by: Lindzey
February 6, 2012 - 10:21 PM

This week the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will post signs for vehicle load weight restrictions at the railroad overpass located on U.S. 54 approximately 1½ miles east of Yates Center. The load limits on the bridge will be: 15 tons for a single vehicle; 20 tons for a truck-tractor semi-trailer; and 30 tons for a truck trailer combination.

The weight restrictions will be in effect until the bridge is repaired or replaced. The overpass is tentatively scheduled for replacement in 2015 under the T-WORKS transportation program. The estimated construction cost of the project is $2.4 million. For more information about T-WORKS projects and funding visit the website, www.ksdot.org/tworks. Those with questions about the new weight restrictions may contact Priscilla Petersen, KDOT Southeast District public affairs manager, at 1-877-550-5368 (toll free).

TVL ROUND 2
Posted by: Jim Hills
February 6, 2012 - 3:38 PM

Last week found the LadyCats and Wildcats ready to start the second round of games with TVL opponets after running the table by both posting perfect 7-0 records in the first go round.

The LadyCats hit the road to Cherryvale, outscoring the Chargers in each quarter, led by Jacquelyn O'Connors 22 points to a 68-38 victory. Sarah Pearson and Madison Stewart each recorded 12 points for the LadyCats. That Tuesday night warmup led to an 80-18 victory over the Humboldt Cubs when the Cats returned home on Friday night. An opening quarter 20-0 run combined with a second quarter 15-0 run put the LadyCats up by 45 at the half with all eleven players making court appearence in the first half. Sydney Ledom broke into double digits for the first time this year, with four 3 pointers, on her way to 14 for the night.

The Wildcats broke out on top at the end of the first quarter, 15-12, in their Tuesday night tussle with Cherryvale. Outscoring Burlington 22-13 in the second gave the Chargers the confidence they needed to ride Sr. Trenton Loganbills' 19 second half points to an 80-60 win over the Cats. Burling placed three scorers in double figures, Shedd, Ratzlaff, and Thomsen, but it was too little too late. Fighting off the first TVL loss of the season, the Wildcats took control in the second quarter of the home game Friday night to gain their 8th TVL win 53-47 over the Humboldt Cubs. Korbin Ratzlaffs' 18 and Blake Thomsens' 26 points powered the Cats to the win.

This week finds the Burlington squads on the road Tuesday to Neodesha to take on the Bluestreaks before returning to host Caney Valley at home Friday night. The boys JV squad has an action packed 7 games scheduled in 12 days with TVL games sandwiched around three games in the Waverly JV tourney on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday of this week.
